What makes it easy to trust and follow a leader? In my experience, it’s not just their skills or style, it’s the alignment between who they say they are and how they show up. This is where self-leadership comes in. To effectively lead others, we must first learn to lead ourselves; through self-awareness, discipline, accountability, and emotional regulation. These are the habits that shape how others experience our leadership. So perhaps the real question is: How well are you leading yourself?

We often talk about representation in terms of race and gender but what about representation in how we live and work? When we only show the polished professional version of ourselves, we create unrealistic standards for those coming behind us. Maybe true workplace representation is modeling the honest integration of ambition, responsibility, exhaustion, growth, and real life so no one feels pressured to pretend they have it all together.
